Afterthought Theatre Company presents A Soldiers Play February 11 through 27 at the Crossroads Theatre at Five Points in Denver, CO. A black sergeant cries out in the night, "They still hate you," then is shot twice and falls dead. Set in 1944 at Fort Neal, a segregated army camp in Louisiana, Charles Fuller's forceful drama has been regularly seen in both its original stage and its later screen version--tracks the investigation of this murder. A Soldier's Play is more than a detective story: it is a tough, incisive exploration of racial tensions and ambiguities among blacks and between blacks and whites that gives no easy answers and assigns no simple blame.
The cast includes CharLes White, Randall Simulva, Curshion RoyAl Jones, Martell Epperson, Wendell Chauncey Perkins Jr., Terence Ellison, Jake Shane, Brian Brooks, William "Dale" Haltom, Cris Davenport, David Pinckney and Timothy Johnson.
Charles H. Fuller is an American playwright, best known for his play, A Soldier's Play for which he received the 1982 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Charles joined the U.S. Army in 1959, serving in Japan and South Korea.. He left the army in 1962, and later studied at La Salle University (1965-1967), earning a DFA. He co-founded the Afro-American Arts Theatre in Philadelphia in 1967, co-directing it until 1971.
Afterthought Theatre Company is a new theater company in the Denver Metro Area. It was founded for the sole purpose of staging The Meeting by Jeff Stetson; however due to an outpouring of support from the community they are advancing their endeavor to bring quality Broadway and theatrical performances to Denver. Afterthought is a traveling theatre company, performing at various venues in the community, offering high-quality, wholesome, and compelling entertainment for discerning theater attendees of all ages.
