11 Minutes Theatre Company presents Fuenteovejuna (The Sheep's Well) by Lope De Vega (translation by Laurence Boxwell) now throught June 2nd at Su Teatro @ The Denver Civic Theatre in Denver, CO. Is it ever acceptable to torture a human being, or more simply, to kill a person out of revenge? Violence, war, rage, loss, survival, economic trials, political affiliations, religion, blame, power, individualism, community, honor; what do we know of these? These terms defined 15th century Spain, when the drama Fuenteovejuna takes place, and continued to define Spain through the 17th century, when Spain's most esteemed playwright, Lope De Vega wrote the play. This play looks at the individual human spirit and what we are capable of. Witness a town that is bullied by a terrifying tyrant who will do whatever is necessary in order to seize what he wants. A valiant young woman spearheads a bloody revolution no matter the cost in order to save herself and her people's dignity. We all can relate to the situations that arise in this tumultuous play; and, like the times of our original piece there are no real answers provided, just questions.

Under the direction of Janine Ann Kehlenbach, the cast (in order of appearance) includes Brock Benson (Comendador Fernán Guzmán), Amy Luna (Flores/Ortuño), Emme Watkins (Maestra Victoria Tellez), Brittany Wolff (Laurencia), Dawn Bower (Pascuala), James O'Hagan Murphy (Barrildo), Matt Beard (Frondoso), Ali Janes Paulsen (Mengo), Margaret Casart (Estebana), Lisa Cillessen (Alonsa) and Elia Brovarone (Jacinta).

Félix Arturo Lope De Vega y Carpio (1562 – 1635) was a Spanish playwright and poet. He was one of the key figures in the Spanish Golden Century Baroque literature. His reputation in the world of Spanish literature is second only to that of Cervantes, while the sheer volume of his literary output is unequalled, making him one of the most prolific authors in the history of literature.

Fuenteovejuna (The Sheep's Well) will be captivating audiences now through June 2nd at Su Teatro @ The Denver Civic Theatre, 721 Santa Fe Drive, Denver, CO 80204. Performances are Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. For tickets or more information are available at jak.11minutes@gmail.com or 720-333-3499 or online at www.brownpapertickets.com - Event name: Fuenteovejuna.
