The Northglenn Arts and Humanities Foundation (NAHF) announced today that New Mexico artist Lyman Whitaker is the recipient of the 2009/2010 People's Choice Award for his copper and stainless steel sculpture, "Double Spinner." The award is part of Northglenn's Art on Parade program. The program features on-loan, outdoor sculpture exhibited at E.B. Rains Jr. Memorial Park for one year. The public votes for their favorite, and NAHF works toward purchasing the piece for permanent display in the City of Northglenn. NAHF has already secured funding for the piece from the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD).

"Double Spinner" is copper and stainless steel, 16' high, and will be purchased for $6,000. Lyman has been a practicing sculptor for over 40 years, with a unique knowledge of materials and their application. Wind SculpturesTM are innovative and artistic with a high degree of mechanical integrity; they are well respected for their quality craftsmanship and have been installed in public places throughout the U.S.

The piece will remain on display in E.B. Rains Jr. Memorial Park through May 2010, at which time six new sculptures on loan will be installed. The permanent location for "Double Spinner" will be announced in the fall of 2010. For more information about Art on Parade or NAHF, call Michael Stricker at (303) 450-8727.

The Northglenn Arts and Humanities Foundation (NAHF) is a 501(c)3 organization that provides funding for quality youth theatre, public art, and other cultural endeavors in our community. NAHF was founded in 1990.
