"Love Letters"is a funny and emotional portrait about the powerful connection of love. Two friends, rebellious Melissa Gardner and straight-arrow Andrew Makepeace Ladd III have exchanged notes, cards and letters with each other for over 50 years. From second grade, through summer vacations, to college, and well into adulthood, they have spent a lifetime discussing their hopes and ambitions, dreams and disappointments, and victories and defeats.
In the late '80s, Gurney was scheduled to give a speech at the New York Public Library -- but instead, armed with his friend and collaborator, actress Holland Taylor and a stack of letters, the pair read "Love Letters" to the crowd.
The 2014 Broadway production included appearances by Carol Burnett, Alan Alda, Candice Bergen, Stacy Keach, Diana Rigg, Anjelica Huston, Martin Sheen, Mia Farrow and Brian Dennehy.
"Love Letters" was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
