Denver Center Theatre Academy (DCTA), the Denver Center Theatre Company's (DCTC) Education Department, has just announced that actor, director and master teacher Larry Hecht will join its staff as Head of Acting.
"I am thrilled to have Larry join our ranks," said Director of Education, Tam Dalrymple Frye, when making the announcement. "Our plan is to provide a wider range of classes and programs for the actors and performers in the Denver area. We want the Academy to be the first place actors go to hone their craft by working with professional colleagues from the DCTC. Additionally, Larry will be a tremendous resource for business professionals looking for presentation coaching. This fall, the Academy will celebrate its 20th Anniversary. Larry is exactly the right kind of person who can help us plan for the next 20 years."
Hecht adds, "The DCTA is a lightning rod for the energy and passion of Denver's community of actors. In these actors, who work in other arenas all day or spend all day in school, lies the real future of theater. Evenings and weekends they come, why? Because each one of them is attracted and stimulated by this magical art form. This is a kind of passion that we must continue to nurture and intensify for the betterment of our society and world."
Formerly the Head of Acting for The National Theatre Conservatory (NTC), Larry joins the Academy this July in a full-time position aimed to strengthen and broaden the curriculum for the adult Academy students. With more than three decades as an Equity actor, Larry has performed at almost every major regional theatre in U.S., including starring roles in DCTC's The Pillowman, A Midsummer Night's Dream and Glengarry Glen Ross among many others. Many students from the Academy will recognize Larry as Neve Campbell's father, Neil Prescott, in Wes Craven's Scream and Scream 3 films.
