The Fine Arts Center's Second Stage series continues this month with Knuffle Bunny, A Cautionary Musical, today, March 21-31 in the historic Music Room.
Based on his beloved Caldecott Honor-winning picture book, six-time Emmy Award winner Mo Willems joins Grammy Award-winning composer Michael Silversher to lovingly celebrate the heart and heartache that can only come from a family visit to the local Laundromat.
The story ... girl loves stuffed animal. Girl loses beloved animal. Girl fights to get animal back. The show, appropriate for all ages, is chock full of adventure, song and gigantic dancing laundry.
We mentioned the giant dancing laundry, right?
Willems is a number one New York Times best-selling author and illustrator and has been awarded a Caldecott Honoron three occasions. His debut, Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!, was inducted into the Indies Choice Picture Book Hall of Fame in 2009. Other favorites include Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed; the Geisel Award-winning Elephant & Piggie series; and City Dog, Country Frog, illustrated by Jon J Muth.
The musical is based on the book, Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Tale, which Booklist called "A comic gem" and Publishers Weekly wrote: "Willems once again demonstrates his keen insight with a story that is both witty and wise."
Knuffle Bunny stars Lacey Connell (A Year with Frog and Toad, Gypsy), Jen Lennon (the school teacher from A Christmas Story, Hairspray) and Ken Robinson (Elvis from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Full Monty) with puppeteers Sheyna Kissick and Nick Henderson.
