A New York-style cabaret evening of Broadway melodies and jazz standards sung by some of the Denver area's most promising young talents, Jessica Gabrielle Hayoun and Chanel Karimkhani, along with special guest Barret Harper, will be the featured fare at three local clubs on August 18, 21 and 24.
"There's Nothing Rougher Than LOVE" is the theme of the show, which will travel to Paris in September 2014 for a run at Le Carre Parisien, a popular venue for American musical theatre. In their local "sneak preview," the duo will showcase the songs of Stephen Sondheim, Jule Styne and Irving Berlin, and perform selections from such popular Broadway shows as Wicked, The Addams Family, I Love You Because and Bonnie & Clyde.
Jessica and Chanel are well known to Colorado music-lovers, having performed at many popular nightspots and theatre companies in the area. The cabaret show that has brought them together is directed by Robert Michael Sanders and backed by an accomplished trio of musicians that includes pianist/conductor Daniel Graeber, drummer Evan Jones and bassist Rick Thompson. Cabaret combines music, song and theater to tell a story.
Although Jessica and Chanel aspire to move to New York one day, for now they've decided to bring New York to Colorado. "There's Nothing Rougher than LOVE" gives musical expression to the emotions we all feel in finding, losing and holding onto love. First dates, one-night stands, heartthrobs and heartaches are all part of this drama, and evoking such experiences in song has long been a staple of America's most gifted composers and lyricists.
The show will be presented at Lannie's Clocktower in Denver on Monday, August 18tg; at Shine's Restaurant and Gathering Place in Boulder on Thursday, August 21; and at Nissi's in Lafayette on Sunday, August 24. All performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. For further information, go to There's nothing rougher than LOVE on Facebook or visit www.jessicagabrielle.com. Tickets range from $10-$18. Purchase online or at the door.
