Based on a true story, and inspired by interviews conducted by the playwright over several years, "I Am My Own Wife" tells the fascinating tale of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf (born Lothar Berfelde), a real-life German transvestite who managed to survive both the Nazi onslaught and the repressive East German Communist regime. "I Am My Own Wife" was the first one-person show ever to win a Pulitzer Prize.

Greg Alan West first performed "I Am My Own Wife" for Stage Left Theatre Co. in Salida and followed up with a festival version of the play for the 2012 Colorado Community Theater Coalition Festival taking multiple top honors including Best Actor and Production. In 2013 he was cast in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (Peter Quince), "Macbeth" (Porter) and "Richard II" (Ross) at the Colorado Shakespeare Festival. He has performed the roles of Charlie in "On Golden Pond" for Longmont Theatre Co and Uncle Bernie in "The Christmas Spirit" at Firehouse Theatre Co. Recently, he was seen as Vinnie in "The Odd Couple" at Miner's Alley Playhouse and just finished Christmas Carol doing Fezziwig/Old Joe for the PACE center in Parker.

Doug Wright was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2004 for "I Am My Own Wife" as well as the Tony Award for Best Play. He is also know for writing the book for the musicals "Grey Gardens" based on the lives of Edith Ewing Bouvier Beale ("Big Edie") and her daughter Edith Bouvier Beale ("Little Edie"), Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis's aunt and cousin, "Hands on a Hard Body" and adapting the Disney film The Little Mermaid for the Broadway musical.
