A musical theatre tradition is coming to Boulder for the holiday season. Winner of 9 Tony Awards when it debuted in 1964, Fiddler on the Roof is a journey of love, loss, faith and family -- a celebration of life and all its challenges. From the rich orchestrations and beautiful score to the powerful production numbers and emotionally-charged story, this timeless show is one everyone should experience. Fiddler on the Roof opens at BDT Stage on November 14, 2014, and plays during the winter holiday season through February 28, 2015.
Set in the fictional small village of Anatevka, Russia, the story centers on Tevye, a poor dairyman, and his five daughters. With the help of a colorful and tight-knit Jewish community, Tevye tries to protect his daughters and instill in them traditional values in the face of changing social customs and the growing anti- Semitism of Czarist Russia. Rich in historical and ethnic detail, Fiddler on the Roof's universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality, and religion, leaving audiences crying tears of laughter, joy and sadness. Featuring a score by Jerry Bock (music), and Sheldon Harnick (lyrics), and a book by Joseph Stein, based on the stories of Sholem Aleichem, by special permission of Arnold Perl, Fiddler on the Roof is one of the most beloved scores in musical theatre history, including the songs "Tradition," "If I Were A Rich Man," "Matchmaker," and "Sunrise, Sunset."
Featuring Wayne Kennedy as Tevye, Shellie Cox-Robie as Golde, Brett Ambler as Motel, Scott Beyette as Lazar Wolf, and Barb Reeves as Yente. Directed by BDT Stage Artistic Director Michael J. Duran.
