The third annual Denver Arts Week will run November 6-14, offering more than 200 art-focused events throughout the Metro Denver area.

Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper kicked off the event at a press conference in the Denver Art Museum earlier today, calling it a great opportunity for families to get out and explore all the arts and culture that Denver has to offer.

Denver Arts Week begins with a weekend of fun including a "First Friday" art walk in six neighborhoods; a Saturday "Night at the Museums" with 11 museums staying open until 10 p.m. with free admission; and a "Sunday on Stage" series of performing arts events.

Some highlights of the more than 200 events include:

• Nearly 10,000 people are expected at the expanded "First Friday" art walks in six Denver neighborhoods on November 6, with more than 100 participating art galleries, live music performances, artist demonstrations and culinary treats.
• Eleven museums will be open and free until 10 p.m. on Saturday, November 7.* Shuttle buses will begin at the Denver Art Museum and Cherry Creek Shopping Center - the latter offering free parking - and will run four continuous routes to bring passengers to the 11 museums. In addition to being free, many of the museums are offering music, dance and special programming. *Genghis Khan exhibit reservations are "sold out" for the evening at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, but all other exhibits there are open for visitors.
• Sunday on Stage, November 8, is a new addition to the opening weekend, showcasing Denver's affinity for performance art with behind-the-scenes tours of the Denver Performing Arts Complex, the nation's second-largest performing arts center, as well as many other performance specials.

"Even Denver hotels and restaurants are finding more of their creative talents this week, with room rates starting at $52.80*, and unique art offerings displayed on restaurant walls or created for consumption," said Jayne Buck, vice president of tourism, VISIT DENVER, The Convention & Visitors Bureau. "Denver Arts Week is a chance for residents and visitors to explore the city's vast cultural resources, and to see everything Denver has to offer."
*Subject to availability and some restrictions may apply.
