Powerful narratives of women veterans from all branches of military service and all walks of life are the focus of a world premiere theatrical production, "Show of Force," at the Denver Performing Arts Complex.
"Women veterans transition from military to civilian life very differently than their male counterparts. According to a recent study by NPR, when this transition doesn't go well, women veterans are 250% more likely to commit suicide," said Susan Lyles, executive director of And Toto too Theatre Company. "We hope that bringing the struggle of this transition to the stage will bring awareness to this problem and help us find better ways of supporting our military women."
Together with producing partners Denver Arts & Venues and Syncopated Production Group, And Toto too Theatre Company will present the world premiere of "Show of Force" in the Studio Loft at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House May 9-12, 2019
This will be the first full theatrical production of the play which has been in development with And Toto too Theatre Company through workshops, staged readings and veteran engagement over the last year. The original work, written by Beverly Coyle in collaboration with the Psychotherapy and Spirituality Institute in New York City, was based on interviews with women veterans and first performed as a reading in various locations across the country in 2014, including the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.
And Toto too Theatre Company believes in the power of a woman's voice with a mission of creating space for female stories to be told, heard and explored. The collaboration advances Denver Arts & Venues' goal of equity, diversity and inclusion by providing space for the voice of a community that is not often heard.
Tickets for "Show of Force" go on sale Monday, March 4 at AXS.com.
