Dallas Theater Center announced today that Michael Holloman has been named the 2012-2013 Project Discovery Distinguished Educator of the Year. Hollomon is the Director of Theater for R.L. Turner High School and, in his five-year involvement with Project Discovery, has brought 1,100 students to 29 productions at Dallas Theater Center. He is the ninth educator to receive this award.

"I have always wanted to find more opportunities for my students to observe great theater and Project Discovery has given them that chance," said Hollomon. "As an educator, I am always looking for ways to better myself, and my time with this program has helped me grow as a teacher. Receiving this award is an amazing opportunity to be included with some great teachers."

The Distinguished Educator of the Year is chosen by DTC's Education and Community Programs department. The department considers how long educators have been teaching and their involvement with Project Discovery, their commitment to and advocacy for the program, their commitment to arts education and their success at incorporating DTC's productions into their curriculum.

"Mr. Hollomon's dedication to his students' artistic lives and his advocacy on behalf of Project Discovery DTC is a treasure," said Mara Richards, DTC's Manager of Education Programs. "He is invested in his students' lives and encourages an ongoing dialogue with them about their theatrical experiences. We are thrilled to honor him and his exemplary commitment to arts education."

DTC's Project Discovery program is in its 26th season. As part of the program, DTC provides transportation, a pre-show workshop and tickets to its productions to area high school students at no cost to the student or the school. This season, 34 schools received approximately 1,000 tickets to all DTC mainstage productions. Partner schools are chosen via an application process that includes a review of a school's title one eligibility. DTC is accepting applications for the 2013-2014 season now through July 26.

Michael Hollomon is a theater educator and actor. He has been a teacher for twelve years and he currently teaches at R.L.
