Off-Center, a signature line of programming at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts (DCPA) has announced a partnership with international comedy trio A.C.E. to create an off-site production at Stanley Marketplace in the Spring of 2017.
"We are really looking forward to taking on new artistic challenges with this show," said Charlie Miller, Curator of Off-Center. "With our recent production of Sweet & Lucky, we occupied a 16,000 square foot warehouse and built an immersive world for the audience to explore. With this new show, we are excited to be working in public spaces, creating a story that will change how audiences perceive the world around them. The amazing new 22-acre Stanley Marketplace will be the perfect setting for this hilarious new theatrical experience created by Denver's own A.C.E."
"We're big fans of collaboration, and we leaped at the chance to work with the team from Off-Center," said Bryant Palmer, Chief Storyteller at Stanley Marketplace. "They excel at producing one-of-a-kind theatrical experiences, and we're building a marketplace in an old aviation manufacturing facility with a rich history. That sounds like a perfect combination to us."
This production is supported by The Wallace Foundation's Building Audiences for Sustainability initiative.
Additional details including title will be announced at a later date.
As the nation's largest non-profit theatre organization, the Denver Center for the Performing Arts is dedicated to creating unforgettable shared experiences through beloved Broadway musicals, world-class plays, educational programs and inspired events.
Off-Center is the newest and most unconventional arm of the DCPA. Off-Center focuses more on connecting people and upending expectations than on adhering to tradition
A.C.E., a Denver based comedy troupe made up of an American, a Canadian and an Englishman, was formed by actors Linda Klein, Barbara Gehring and Matthew Taylor in 1998 and quickly grabbed the attention of HBO during the US Comedy Arts Festival auditions that fall. Greatly encouraged by that response, A.C.E. has gone on to write and perform over 50 unique theatrical productions, travel the world and earn many accolades including Best of Denver and induction into the Colorado Improv Hall of Fame. The threesome has also produced a television pilot, released a comedy album and debuted on national television in "Across America."
Opening in 2016, Stanley is no ordinary marketplace. Located at the intersection of the Stapleton and Aurora neighborhoods just east of Denver, Stanley Marketplace is a community of like-minded businesses and people who believe in doing things differently: sustainably, creatively and with more than the bottom line in mind. The more than 22-acre, 140,000 sq. ft. indoor/outdoor space was once Stanley Aviation headquarters, where airplane ejector seats were engineered and manufactured; now it is an adaptive reuse community hub, home to a park, beer hall and more. Today, the same innovative spirit that once filled this building has been harnessed to offer community members an urban marketplace featuring goods and services from local and independent businesses, as well as a robust philanthropic and community outreach program, including Charity of the Month and First Jobs programs.
