Established in 2006, the Henry Awards honor outstanding achievements during the past season and serves as the Colorado Theatre Guild's annual fundraising event. The awards are named for longtime local theatre producer Henry Lowenstein. Nominations are determined through a judging process conducted by more than 45 statewide theatre reporters, educators and assigned judges.
In 2009, Theatre Aspen received the Outstanding Regional Theatre Henry Award. Until last year, the organization was ineligible for individual awards, due to the difficulty of comprehensive coverage by voting members of the Guild. Last year, however, enough voters were able to visit the theatre so that the actors, designers, directors and productions could be recognized by CTG.
Theatre Aspen opens its 32nd season of repertory on June 26th, in the Hurst Theatre in Rio Grande Park. Theatre Aspen offers a robust year-round theatre education program and has recently announced the Aspen Theatre Festival for new works, bringing in established and emerging writers for residencies and workshops.
All productions will be underwritten by season sponsor ANB Bank, with the generous support of Franklin and Barbara Carson, Jessica and John Fullerton, Soledad and Bob Hurst, Darlynn and Tom Fellman, Jim and Brenda Grusecki, Liz Armstrong, Terri and Tony Caine, Brett Bossung, the City of Aspen, CCI, Les Dames d'Aspen, The Thrift Shop of Aspen and The Aspen Club and Spa.
