Internationally recognized Colorado Springs Conservatory and the Chamber Orchestra of the Springs join forces yet again for another unique operatic performance.

Maestro and Music Director of the Chamber Orchestra Thomas Wilson and Founding CEO of the CS Conservatory, Linda Weise, bring the rarely performed "A Childhood Miracle," an opera by Pulitzer Prize-winner Ned Rorem, to life. Beginning in 1998, the CSC and the COS have partnered on various operatic works, including "Amahl and the Night Visitors" and "Martin's Lie," both by Gian Carlos Menotti.

Written in 1951, 'A Childhood Miracle' tells Hawthorne's sweet tale of a snowman come to life. "Much of its music is beautiful," wrote New York Times reviewer Barnard Holland in 1994.

"A Childhood Miracle" runs Jan. 30-31 as part of the COS' "Miracles," which includes Joseph Schwantner's "Chasing Light" and Symphony No. 96 in D Major, "Miracle," by Franz Joseph Haydn. The cast of "A Childhood Miracle" includes students, alumni, and friends of the Conservatory.

"Opera is the 'ultimate sport' of the arts," says Weise. "The opportunity for students to experience the performance of such an incredibly challenging piece - and more importantly, the process of learning and rehearsing - is a life altering experience for them. Our continued collaborations with the Chamber Orchestra have been pivotal to the success of the students as they embark on their journey to become professional working artists."

The Colorado Springs Conservatory is an internationally recognized organization celebrating 21 years of providing quality performing arts curriculum for students ages 4 to 18 in both music and theater.

The Chamber Orchestra of the Springs, which was founded in 1981 under the dynamic leadership of Thomas Wilson, is the region's premier chamber ensemble. It brings innovative, educational programming and diverse artistic collaborations to the Front Range.
