Colorado Native, Katy Vaughn will fulfill a lifelong dream of performing on the stage of Denver's Buell Theatre when the National Tour of Dr. Suess' How the Grinch Stole Christmas-The Musical! concludes its 2014 run December 17 - 28.

Katy grew up in Longmont, Colorado and graduated from Silver Creek High School in 2005 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theater at Shenandoah Conservatory in Virginia. While residing in Longmont, Katy performed leading roles in Silver Creek plays and musicals and sang with the top school choirs, earning a spot in Colorado's prestigious All-State Choir. An ambitious young performer, Katy performed in local community theater with Longmont Theater Company and Front Range Music Theater. She also started her career in voiceover with George Flynn Productions in Denver.

"I remember seeing my first professional musical, Tommy at the Buell and soon after, the national tour of Beauty and the Beast and I remember thinking 'I can do that! I can BE that dancing plate!" Katy fondly recalled her first memories of watching performances on the Buell stage. "I knew from a very early age I wanted to make this a career and in many ways follow in my mom's talented footsteps."

Katy studied voice with her mother Cynthia Vaughn, an acclaimed Northern Colorado voice teacher and performer. Cynthia is director of Magnolia Music Studio-Old Town in Fort Collins and was previously on the voice faculty of Colorado State University and The Arvada Center. Katy attended Colorado State University's Rocky Mountain Summer Music Camp and performed in the choir, jazz choir, and musicals. She was immersed in music throughout her childhood and saw dozens of shows at the Arvada Center and the Buell Theatre. Watching her mother's shows intently, she could recite all the lines. Her favorite was the Arvada Center children's theater production of Michael Lion's Pinocchio, in which Cynthia played the evil puppeteer, Madame Evilovich.

"Katy was in grade school when I worked at the Arvada Center." Cynthia remembered, "It was her favorite place. She could have conducted the backstage tours all by herself."

Since moving to New York in 2009, Katy made her national tour debut in A Year with Frog & Toad as Mouse, followed closely by her Off-Broadway debut in the Goldrich & Heisler musical Dear Edwina. Her dream to perform with Disney came true when she portrayed the practically perfect Mary Poppins in Disney's Believe aboard the Disney Dream with Disney Cruise Line. As she continued to follow her animated ambitions in voice over, Katy recorded numerous children's books, most recently Dot. by Randi Zuckerberg. She can also be heard in national advertisements for HTC One, Nike, Veet, and various fragrance lines.

Broadway World recently called the national touring production of Dr. Suess' How the Grinch Stole Christmas-The Musical! "...funny and heartwarming... sure to bring the Christmas spirit to both young and young at heart. They also recognized Katy's performance with the following praise, "...leading the cast are the pleasant performances [...] by Katy Vaughn as Grandma Who."

"I absolutely love performing with the talented company of Dr. Suess' How the Grinch Stole Christmas-The Musical!" Katy commented about her current focus, "It's a beautiful show about friends and family and I feel so privileged to bring this show to my very own friends and family in Colorado and to perform it on the stage of the legendary Buell Theatre. It is the best Christmas present I could have asked for."
