Curious Theatre Company presents Matthew Lopez's The Whipping Man, directed by Associate Artistic Director Kate Folkins and Producing Artistic Director Chip Walton. The production runs January 9 - February 15, 2014 at 1080 Acoma Street, Denver. Opening night is still scheduled for January 11, 2014 at 8 p.m.

Last week, Curious Artistic Company Member Cajardo Lindsey joined the cast of The Whipping Man by Matthew Lopez. Having recently appeared as Ogun Size in Curious Theatre Company's production of The Brothers Size, Lindsey will play the role of Simon in The Whipping Man.

In the aftermath of the Civil War, a Jewish Confederate soldier returns home to discover two of his former slaves living in the ruins of his family's once grand plantation. Bound together by faith, they reunite to celebrate Passover and confront their past, present and future. The Whipping Man is a hauntingly powerful drama about newfound freedom and the painful legacy of slavery.

"The Whipping Man is an incredibly rich, complex, surprising play and this production is an exciting opportunity for Curious to do so many things: to bring to Denver one of the most produced plays in this season of American theatre, to illuminate an important chapter in American history and to explore a fascinating intersection of religions and cultures," says Producing Artistic Director Chip Walton. "The Whipping Man is precisely the kind of provocative and adventurous play that Denver audiences have come to expect from Curious Theatre Company."

The cast includes Curious Artistic Company Members Laurence Curry and Cajardo Lindsey, with Sean Scrutchins.

The creative team includes Curious Artistic Company Members Markas Henry and Shannon McKinney, with Brian Freeland, Michael Duran and Todd Debreceni.
