Creede Repertory Theatre is excited to announce the grand opening of The Second Stage Theatre in July 2011. With the momentum and recognition the City of Creede has received from the Governor's Arts Award, CRT is proud to continue to contribute to the cultural and economic enhancement of the town through the opening of a second performance space.

This venue will replace the current, third floor, Black Box Theatre, allowing CRT to seat more people, expand programming, and use the facility year round. With a flexible and adjustable seating plan, patrons will be able to see one show ‘in thrust' and another production ‘in the round' and then enjoy special events and presentations in a traditional proscenium setting. CRT will continue to use the Main Stage Theatre for the larger summer productions.

The Second Stage features energy efficient construction including: solar roof panels, on-demand hot water heaters and motion sensor lighting equipment in low traffic areas (bathrooms, dressing room, and storage spaces). As a small, rural non-profit, CRT strives to reduce the production of greenhouse gases by making energy conscious choices.

The Road to Mecca, written by Athol Fugard and based on the life of artist, Helen Martins will open in The Second Stage on July 8, 2011. World-renowned director, Nagle Jackson will stage this production and CRT grande dame, Christy Brandt will star as the eccentric and deeply artistic soul.

CRT is also hosting a Celebration of the Arts grand opening weekend July 15, 16, 17, 2011. Events will include, ribbon cutting, performances, receptions, backstage tours and more! Tickets to all events will be available to the public on April 4, 2011 more details will be available soon at www.creederep.org.
