"I don't know how to be in my own body" is the theme of Eve Ensler's smash hit, The Good Body presented by Avenue Theater. Next to the Vagina Monologues, I believe that this is one of Ms. Ensler's finest works. It truly is an exploration of the imperfection of the woman's body and a mirror to womens insecurities. The fact that it is autobiographical further impacts the entire message of the play (and makes me feel like I know Eve Ensler and appreciate her more).

It features a star-studded cast of Denver's favorite leading ladies including Emily Paton Davies, Lisa Rosenhagen and Megan Van de Hey. This show really covered about every continent and the actresses did a wonderful job with the accents (from Indian to African and Hispanic to Jewish) that varied all of the various roles. These actress under the direction of Edith Weiss should really be commended for such an outstanding job.

I really appreciated that they used multimedia effects to further impact some of the key elements of the show (starving actresses, Cosmo girls, the beauty of India ), I only wish they had used more of it, but realize that it might have distracted from the actresses and the play. The set and costumes were very minimalist featuring accents of clothing throughout the show to highlight the various countries they were in.

I spoke with Dave Johnson, Executive Director of the Avenue Theater, and he said that this was the fourth year opening with a womens themed show and he couldn't be happier. There was also a rumor of this hit show returning for an encore sometime this year if the schedule allows. This is one show that should not be missed!

The Good Body is currently playing now until February 26th. For tickets of more information call the box office at 303-321-5925 or visit www.avenuetheater.com.
