Four years ago Bryan disappeared, abandoning his labor of love, a newspaper for truckers. Now he's returned, and things have changed. His former lover is filled with rage, his new coworker is filled with incessant adoration, and his paper is filled with personal ads. As he considers giving up for good, Bryan searches for what he couldn't find on the road: a way to keep faith in humanity.

BETC is delighted to present the regional premiere of "The Few," the latest play by Samuel D. Hunter. Hunter, author of "The Whale" and "A Bright New Boise," was the 2014 recipient of a MacArthur Foundation Genius Grant.

Set in the rural Idaho office of a newspaper for long-haul truckers, "The Few" explores loneliness, loss, and love as its characters struggle to reconcile their faded dreams with their hopes for a brighter future. Leavened with humor and moments of tenderness, Hunter's quietly captivating play illustrates that small actions can have unintended, but profoundly powerful repercussions.

The play takes place during the Y2K scare of late 1999, against a backdrop of fear about the consequences of relying too much on technology for human connection. "Hunter's play recalls the uncertainty that surrounded the dawning of the millennium, and uses it to magnify the questions we all face in our lives," says Producing Ensemble Director Stephen Weitz. "Is it too late to recapture something magical from the past? Can we ever really find a fresh start?"

Guest Director Kate Folkins (former Associate Artistic Director of Curious Theatre) leads a powerful cast of returning BETC favorites: Michael Morgan ("This"), Lindsey Pierce ("Mauritius" and "Morisot Reclining"), and John Hauser ("Ambition Facing West").
