BEETS, by local playwright Rick Padden, will play the Fox Studio Theatre, today, January 16 through February 8, 2015.
An historical fiction play that reveals a little known chapter in America's history - inspired by actual events. At the height of WWII, Berthoud, Colorado's industrious sugar beet farmers were expecting a record harvest, but labor was in short supply as most of the town's young men were fighting overseas. With over 3000 German POWs being held at Camp 202 in Greeley, it made sense to put them to work in the fields. Beets is a poignant story of one family's bias yielding to circumstance, hatred bowing to compassion and love crossing boundaries.
BEETS will run Fridays January 16, 23, 30 and February 6 at 7:30pm; Saturdays January 17, 24, 31 and February 7 at 7:30 pm; and Sundays January 25, February 1 and 8 at 2:00pm. All seats $20.
