Arvada Center Children's Theater Presents HOW I BECAME A PIRATE, Opening 10/18

On Oct 18, the Arvada Center opens the children's theater production How I Became a Pirate, book, music and lyrics by Janet Yates Vogt and Mark Friedman, directed by David and Julie Payne. The stage production is based on the book, How I Became a Pirate written by Melinda Long and illustrations by David Shannon. The show will run Oct 18 – Dec 28, 2012. Performances are 10 a.m. and noon, most Tuesdays through Fridays, select Saturdays at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. For specific show dates please check our website. How I Became a Pirate is recommended for ages four and up. Don't miss "How to Become a Pirate Day" where kids are encouraged to come dressed like their favorite pirate, make pirate hats and receive temporary tattoos, activity sheets and more. "How to Become a Pirate Days" are Saturday, Nov 3, Friday, Nov 23, Saturday, Nov 24 and Saturday, Dec 15.  

 How I Became a Pirate will be Audio Described for the sight impaired Tuesday, Nov 6 at 10 a.m. and noon, and Shadow performed for the hearing impaired on Thursday, Nov 8 and Friday, Nov 9, at 10 a.m. and noon. Shadow-interpreted theater utilizes specially trained American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters to perform as "shadows" on stage alongside actors.

AARRRRGH!  Who doesn't want to be a pirate?  When young Jeremy Jacob and his exceptional digging skills are recruited by Captain Braid Beard for treasure burying purposes, Jeremy thinks the pirate life is for him.  Until he realizes that the simple things in life, like a kiss and a warm tucking in at night are those that are most important.  Set sail for a hilarious and toughing journey as Jeremy learns that the most important things in life are worth more than buried treasure.  A story of adventure and finding one's own heart – a path that can't be found on any treasure map.

The cast features Melissa Morris (Jeremy Jacob), Sammie Joe Kinnett (Captain Braid Beard), Mark Lively (Swill the Pirate), Nick Henderson (Sharktooth the Pirate), Tim Howard (Pirate Pierre), Maggie Tisdale (Max the Pirate), Brian Murray (Pirate Seymour Braunschwagger) and Barret Harper (Pirate Scurvy Dog).
