The Arvada Center and the Fort Collins Museum of Contemporary Art collaboratively present this traveling exhibition. Joseph Raffael is one of America's foremost contemporary realist painters. Like the photo-realists with whom he is often identified, Raffael uses photographs as the basis of his paintings. Unlike most photo-realists, however, Raffael's paintings incorporate many aspects of
modernism-abstract composition, unconventional view angles, flattened space and expressive brushwork. Raffael finds his inspiration in nature and many of his motifs are found in the garden he and his wife Lannis have planted in Antibes, France.
