The Tony Award winning musical Sunset Boulevard opens the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities' 2010-11 theater season on September 14. In addition to Sunset Boulevard, the theater season's line-up includes three critically acclaimed Broadway musicals in the Main Stage Theater: Cabaret, Hairspray and the regional premiere of A Christmas Carol: The Musical. Two Arvada Center produced plays will be performed in the Center's Black Box Theater: the classic A Lion in Winter and the regional premiere of the comedy, The Lady with All the Answers.
"Musicals are a mainstay of the Arvada Center," states Arvada Center Artistic Director Lansberry. "Opening with Les Misérables and Miss Saigon in recent years set high expectations for our theater goers, as well as the cast and crew. Sunset Boulevard continues in that tradition."
The Arvada Center's traditional six-play subscription series expands to seven with The Ladies Man by Creede Repertory Theatre (CRT), the 2009 Denver Post Reader's Choice Award for Best Year by a Theater Company. "We have never included another company in our subscription series, but Creede's reputation precedes them; their work is exemplary," states Lansberry. "Having a Creede performance at the Arvada Center will be a real treat for theater goers in the Denver area."
"Collaboration has been at the core of the Arvada Center's success in other areas of operations, including education, live concerts and gallery exhibitions," states Executive Director Gene Sobczak "Although The Ladies Man will premiere this summer as part of Creede's 2010 theater season, our hope is that an even greater appreciation and audience for the production will be created by presenting it in our Black Box Theater."
"The Creede Repertory Theatre could not be more delighted at the opportunity to bring The Ladies Man to the Front Range," states CRT Executive and Artistic Director Maurice LaMee. "It's a privilege to partner with the Arvada Center - an arts organization highly regarded for its loyal and discerning patrons, as well as its emphatic dedication to artistic excellence."
The Arvada Center's theater season also will feature The Diviners by Ovation Award winning PHAMALY. PHAMALY: The Physically Handicapped Actors and Musical Artists League will produce a limited engagement of performances at the Arvada Center in February 2011 following their regular run of the production at the Aurora Fox Theater in January.
"Our winter production has been staged in the eastern metropolitan area for several years, and we look forward to introducing it to new audiences at the Arvada Center," states PHAMALY Executive Director Melanie Mayner. "Working with PHAMALY also offers Arvada Center staff and crew new learning opportunities, which is part of our company's mission."
"Our subscribers have demonstrated amazing support for our productions," continues Sobczak. "Our presenting partnerships with Creede and PHAMALY enable us to increase the amount of theater we can offer, while maintaining the standard of excellence we uphold as one of the region's foremost producers of live theater."
Arvada Center Theater 2010-11 subscription packages range in price from $165 to $369 and go on sale to Arvada Center subscribers and the general public on Tuesday, April 27, 2010. Single tickets for the 2010 -11 theater season go on sale August 9, 2010. Tickets for The Diviners will be limited and made available first to Arvada Center 2010-11 subscribers.

Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber
Book & Lyrics by Don Black & Christopher Hampton
Based on the Billy Wilder Film
Winner of 7 Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Musical Score
This Andrew Lloyd Webber musical is based on the 1950 film of the same title. The story is about Norma Desmond, a relic of the early years of filmmaking. When talkies pushed silent films and their stars out of the limelight, Norma locked herself into her mansion with her memories, an ex-husband and a chimp as her only companions. Twenty years later, when disillusioned screenwriter Joe Gillis stumbles within her reach, Nora sees in him an opportunity to make her "return" to the big screen.
