Thornton Wilder’s Our Town is a classic of American Theatre. Written in 1938, the play is a timeless portrait of life with the warmth, humor and sadness of life that is experienced by every generation. Through the everyday lives of its citizens, it tells the story of the fictional American small town of Grover’s Corners between 1901 and 1913. This beloved Pulitzer Prize winner has been produced throughout the world. A simple story of love, loss, family and friendship, the threads of life are constantly rewoven as the play asks timeless questions about the meaning of the circle of life. The play crosses cultural borders around the world and its success attests to its being something much greater than an American play. It is a simple, quiet play that captures the universal experience of being alive.
