Come and share an evening or an afternoon with Dreamers United that promises to be filled with fellowship and inspiration!" He said the cast members are mostly students from area schools.
Using gospel, African dance and poetry, "Triumph Through Struggle" tells the story of African Americans as they persevered and grew into a vital, contributing force among all citizens of the United States. The ringing words of
Maya Angelou's "I Rise" and the Gospel song "Ride on, King Jesus," set a tone that illustrates the strength and perseverance of African Americans who came as slaves and rose to leadership positions in America.
The production includes stories of ancient African royalty, dark history of lynching and burnings, the tragedy of four young girls killed in a church bombing and gives tribute to African Americans who served honorably in the military. Known and honored theatre productions as "Purlie Victorious" and "Raisin in the Sun" also provide material for the Dreamers United show.
Cast members include Melony Showell, Janiqua Brown, Lillian Blake, Nazhae McCray, Geria Sturgis, Jah'zell Flowers, Nakira Brittingham, Allison White, Angelia Cannon, Alonza D. Sutton II, Daijah Bailey, Jasmine Deputy and Juan Hudson.
Also in the cast are Kenya Neal, Terrell Mannard, Derek Page, Berlinda Grant, Summer Okoye, Rahsel Holland, Chevy Lamontagne, D. Okoye and Michael Pernell.
Possum Point Players is supported, in part, by grants from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
