LEADING LADIES follows the shenanigans of scheming out-of-work Shakespearean actors as they plot to scam an aging, rich dowager close to her final curtain call. They plan to pass themselves off as heirs to the dowager's fortune. Before the opening night of their master plan, they learn the nephews they plan to portray are actually fairer sex nieces. A wig here, a dash of blush there, all topped off with a swipe of eye shadow, the intrepid actors switch gears and hope the old soul buys their attempt at a switch of sex.
Of course, even in normally tranquil and bucolic Amish countryside in Pennsylvania, romance is the obvious outcome of such troupers' trials. Performing as the switchable swashbuckling Shakespeareans AKA demure and proper United Kingdom kindred are Jim Killion and Doug Friend. Entertaining in itself, Possum Hall Grande Dame, Esther Friend (Doug's off-stage mom) portrays the dowager due for demise. E.J. Panico and Kim Klabe present little make-up and costuming challenge as young local, and available ladies, Audrey and Meg. John Marino (Duncan), Ron Pakula (Doc) and Bill Ulichney (Butch) round out the cast.
