Even though summer is fading and autumn is slowly asserting itself, everything will soon be "Coming up Roses" as the Clear Space Theatre Company in Rehoboth enters "A Whole New World" in its fall Arts Institute line-up, which consists of four educational programs designed for various ages. Three of those classes are still open for interested students to enroll.
Designed for young performers, the Broadway Bound program is Clear Space's hallmark program and kicks off on September 15th. Led by industry professionals, students meet once a week to rotate through classes in acting with Jann Ellis, dance with Sydney Gray, and voice with Melanie Bradley. The classes, which this semester will focus on music from SOUTH PACIFIC, MATILDA, and PIPPIN, culminate in an end-of-semester performance on November 17.
Classes for adults are still open as well, namely the Broadway Legends class, which will be preparing a performance of GYPSY this semester. Broadway Legends is designed for students 50 and older who can have the joy of performing without the added pressure of memorization or complex staging. Participants this upcoming semester will have the opportunity to learn the score of GYPSY, including "Let Me Entertain You," "Together Wherever We Go," "Gotta Get a Gimmick," "Everything's Coming Up Roses," and more. The semester will conclude with two public performances on November 18.
Finally, folks of all ages who don't want to commit to a full semester might opt to take one or more Master Class Acting Workshops offered at the theatre. Each workshop is run by a different industry professional and concentrates on honing specific skills that could range from stage combat to acting in film. Sessions run on Sunday evenings from October 11 to November 29 and culminate in a "Friend-raiser" performance. Workshops cost $5 per session with no pre-registration necessary. The specific schedule of Master classes will be released at a later date.
One of the programs designed for young actors, A Spotlight on Young Performers, has already passed its deadline for registration since the class requires auditions to enroll. Those students will be part of a production of ALADDIN, JR., which is sponsored by the Hair Cuttery and set to run November 13-15. Tickets for the show are available now and are expected to sell quickly.
Interested participants can pick up a registration form at Clear Space Theatre, located at 20 Baltimore Avenue in Rehoboth Beach, by visiting www.clearspacetheatre.org, or calling 302-227-2270.
