Delaware Theatre Company has announced a change in its line-up for the 2012-2013 season. Just yesterday the theatre announced a partnership with members of the Delaware Symphony Orchestra for a Spring 2013 production of SOUTH PACIFIC. Rodgers and Hammerstein's classic musical will replace MY FAIR LADY as the conclusion to its 12-13 season, and will run from April 10-May 5, 2013.

SOUTH PACIFIC will be directed by DTC's recently appointed Executive Director Bud Martin with choreography by Sonny Leo. Members of the Delaware Symphony Orchestra, conducted by David Amado, will be a key creative component in Delaware Theatre Company's first production of a major musical.

This family offering will not only provide for collaboration with the Delaware arts community but allow for more diverse casting. Additionally, there will be the opportunity for two local children to be featured in the production, fostering talent from DTC's Summer on Stage program. According to Director Bud Martin, "I can't think of a better show for the symphony and the theatre to work on together. It is one of the most sweeping, symphonic scores ever written and it will be an amazing opportunity to hear the orchestra in our intimate theatre."

SOUTH PACIFIC, adapted from the Pulitzer Prize winning novel, Tales of the South Pacific, includes music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and book by Oscar Hammerstein II and Joshua Logan. In this classic for all ages, an island paradise is the setting for two enchanting love stories, both threatened by the perils of World War II and racial prejudice. Spunky and charming Nellie Forbush falls in love with French planter Emile de Becque, as the bewitchingly beautiful Tonkinese girl, Liat, steals the heart of strapping Joe Cable. This deeply-felt drama remains as relevant today as it was in 1949, featuring such timeless favorites as "Some Enchanted Evening," "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair," "This Nearly Was Mine," and "There is Nothin' Like a Dame."

SOUTH PACIFIC will run at the Delaware Theatre Company April 10-May 5, 2013. Preview subscribers, note that while a fourth week has been added to the beginning of the run, you will have your choice of attending Wednesday through Friday performances during either the first or second week of performances, at the subscription preview rate.

For non-subscribers, single tickets range from $35 to $49 and are on sale now by calling the Delaware Theatre Company Box Office at (302) 594-1100. Group rates and discounts for seniors, students, and military members are also available. For more information on this change and our entire 2012-2013 season, visit us online today.
