Casting Announced For Motown Hits Fundraiser Coming To Possum Point Players Theatre

Don't wait until you hear it through the grapevine, tickets for the Possum Point Players' fundraiser, "A Night of Motown Hits - Classic Soul," are what's going on, and they are going fast. Fewer than 40 tickets remain for the Saturday, Oct. 27 performance and attention is turning to the Sunday, Oct. 28 matinee.

The fundraiser includes 25 Motown classics performed by more than 20 singers. Tickets for the music filled show are $25 and benefit the lobby refurbishing project. There is a silent auction of treasures from someone's attic, baskets of bottled hospitality, seasonally themed collections and coupons and gift cards from local businesses and restaurants. Homemade baked goods to take home or nibble on the spot are available as long as they last.

Saturday show is at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday matinee is at 2 p.m. General admission tickets can be purchased at www.possumpointplayers.org and by calling the office ticket line 302-856-4560.

Co-directors Lillian Blake, Salisbury, Md, and Clausius Bowden and Music Director Christy Taylor, both of Georgetown, have assembled a cast of singers and musicians from eleven Southern Delaware communities and several from other states. Kenya Blake of Baltimore, Md., Devon Winborne of Brooklyn, NY, and Kristian Blake of Laurel, Md., came to join cast members from the region .

Mel Acquesta, Howard Dashiell, Donna de Kuyper and Tara Wisely are from Lewes; Whitney Cook, Anthony Giddens, Whitney Harris, Sam Cook and Delisa Chandler are from Salisbury, Md. From Millsboro are Aimee Parker, Anthony Williams and Clifton Harmon; and Dulcena Kimmerlin and Pamela Taylor are from Milford.

From Frankford are Valerie Harmon and Marsha Shull, and Sheila Lopez and Steve Wimbs are from Long Neck. From Snow Hill, Md., are Joanne Johnson and Keisha Jackson; and Stephanie Shelton is from Rehoboth Beach. Hansel Fuller is from Georgetown, Anthony Policastro is from Seaford, and Donald Stewart is from Delmar.

Among the 25 songs made famous by many Motown icons are "Dancing in the Street," "Stop in the Name of Love," "Signed, Sealed, Delivered," "People Get Ready," "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," "My Girl" and "Sugar Pie Honey Bunch." The song list is by such artists as Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, The Four Tops, Aretha Franklin, Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions, Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Jackie Wilson and The Isley Brothers made the music famous and Possum Point Players brings it home to Delaware.

"A Night of Motown Hits" is suitable for all audiences.
