Three artists are set to play The Grand Opera House this week, all performing songs off of newly released albums:
Wednesday, October 18 at 8:00 p.m. - William Patrick Corgan (former frontman of The Smashing Pumpkins) will play a solo evening with songs off of his new album OGILALA, along with Pumpkins favorites. William Patrick Corgan is a singer, songwriter, producer, and frontman of celebrated alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins. Formed in Chicago, IL in 1988, the band released their heralded debut album Gish in 1991 and found mainstream success with 1993's 4x multi-platinum Siamese Dream and 1995's 10x multi-platinum Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. Following the band's 2000 dissolution, Corgan helmed the alternative rock band Zwan before releasing his debut solo album TheFutureEmbrace and reforming The Smashing Pumpkins in 2005. With over 30 million albums sold, the GRAMMY®, MTV VMA, and American Music Award winning band remains an influential force in alternative rock. Tickets: $45-$59.50
Friday, October 20 at 8:00 p.m. - Colin Hay (former frontman of Men at Work) will play an evening with songs off of his new album Fierce Mercy. FIERCE MERCY is an epic, cinematic step forward from singer-songwriter Colin Hay, most beloved for his intimate, confessional live shows but most widely known for being an influential and celebrated frontman. The range of artists who have chosen to cite him as a muse or who have found themselves on stage with him in the past year spans the genre landscape from heavy metal, to Americana, to Cuban rhythms and beyond. His inclusion as a playlist favorite from the likes of Metallica to The Lumineers reflects his continuing relevance and broad appeal. Tickets: $35-$55
Sunday, October 22 at 3:00 p.m. - Pink Martini returns to The Grand to play music off of their new album JE DIS OUI! Pink Martini has twelve musicians (and sometimes travels with string sections), and performs its multilingual repertoire on concert stages and with symphony orchestras throughout Europe, Asia, Greece, Turkey, the Middle East, Northern Africa, Australia and New Zealand and North America. The band has gone on to play with over 25 orchestras around the world, including multiple engagements with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl, the Boston Pops, the National Symphony at the Kennedy Center and the BBC Concert Orchestra in London. "Pink Martini is a rollicking around-the-world musical adventure ... if the United Nations had a house band in 1962, hopefully we'd be that band." - Thomas Lauderdale, bandleader/pianist. Tickets: $43-$51
