BWW Previews: THE NEW SEASON AT THE PLAYHOUSE at The Playhouse Image

The Playhouse has an exciting new season of touring shows and one nighters. It kicks off with SPAMALOT. Aisle Say has seen this a few times and am looking forward once again. There are so many hysterical scenes and takes, but one of my faves is when one knight is in a sword fight and keeps losing his appendages, thinking nothing of it...'a pecadillo', he laments. The tag line is "a new musical lovingly ripped off from MONTY PYTHON and THE HOLY GRAIL. Oct. 25-28

Following in the footsteps of Broadway stars who became their own brand (Patti LuPone, Linda Eder, Idina Menzel a/k/a Adele Nazeem), quadruple threat Sutton Foster brings her inestimable talent on November 3. Anyone who has ever seen her is in love.

CIRQUE DREAMS HOLIDAZE - Nov 23-25. I still remember years ago when I saw my first Cirque de Soleil. I imagined there must be some disconnect with reality. How in the world can these people do this?

LEGALLY BLOND - Feb 23-24 The movie that made Reese Witherspoon a star set to music. Throughout the show, no one has faith in Elle Woods, but she manages to surprise them when she defies expectations while staying true to herself. The final scene wherein Elle wins the murder case is a great achievement of comedy and poignancy.

ALL HANDS ON DECK - Nov 10. Our 1942 homage to the days of Bob Hope and war-bond drives features a cast of New York Voices, the rich sounds of the 9-piece ALL-LIVE Hollywood Victory Caravan Orchestra, classic commercials, tight harmonies, impromptu skits, and 42 of the Greatest American songs ever written -- not to mention a full-circle patriotic salute to the American way of life.

Frankie Valli AND THE FOUR SEASONS TRIBUTE - Jan 4 In 1962, the group released their first album, featuring the single "Sherry," which was not only their first charted hit but also their first number-one song. The Four Seasons followed up "Sherry" with several million selling hits, including "Big Girls Don't Cry," (their second #1 hit), "Walk Like A Man," (their third #1), "Candy Girl" and several others.

SOMETHING ROTTON - Mar 7-10 Set in 1595, this hilarious smash tells the story of Nick and Nigel Bottom, two brothers who are desperate to write a hit play. When a local soothsayer foretells that the future of theatre involves singing, dancing and acting at the same time, Nick and Nigel set out to write the world's very first MUSICAL! Its heart is on its ruffled sleeve and sequins in its soul.

FINDING NEVERLAND - Apr 11-14 Playwright J.M. Barrie struggles to find inspiration until he meets four Young Brothers and their beautiful widowed mother. Spellbound by the boys' enchanting make-believe adventures, he sets out to write a play that will astound London theatergoers. With a little bit of pixie dust and a lot of faith, Barrie takes this monumental leap, leaving his old world behind for Neverland, where nothing is impossible and the wonder of childhood lasts forever.

THE SOUND OF MUSIC - May 9-12 This story will never grow old, obviously.

The Playhouse - 302.888.0200
