Ah, we all love rom coms. But decades prior to the term becoming part of contemporary lexicon.... there was BAREFOOT IN THE PARK. Those of a certain baby boomer age all know Robert Redford and Jane Fonda were in the movie. However, we must stretch back even farther to see that the Sundance Kid and Elizabeth Ashley premiered the show on Broadway in (cough) 1963.
Annually during summer months they stage straight shows. This one will be full of laughs. This was Neil Simon's longest-running hit, and the tenth longest-running non-musical play in Broadway history.
it focuses on newlyweds Corie (Sarah Robinson) and Paul Bratter (David Polgar) and their adventures living in a minuscule sixth floor walk-up apartment in Greenwich Village. Stuffed-shirt Paul is a hard-working young lawyer just starting his practice, while spontaneous bride Corie is determined to create a romantic environment in one room with no heat, a hole in the skylight, and oddball neighbors.
The title refers to Paul becoming drunk, throwing caution to the wind and running barefoot in Washington Square Park in response to his wife's repeated complaints about his sober and cautious demeanor. Corrie wants Paul to become more easy-going: for example, to run "barefoot in the park."
There are eccentrics in the walk-up apartment who provide great guffaws.
