The Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, with support from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Delaware Division of the Arts, has provided funding to support three performances taking place at The Grand this spring.

French jazz vocalist Cyrille Aimée performed live @ the baby grand on Thursday, February 16, post-modern, indie-classical string quartet Ethel Will perform live @ the baby grand on Friday, March 10, and high-octane Philadelphia dance troupe Illstyle & Peace in Copeland Hall at The Grand on Saturday, April 1. Tickets for these performances range from $17 to $30 and can be purchased by calling 302.652.5577, online at TheGrandWilmington.org, or in-person at the box office located at 818 N. Market Street, Wilmington, DE.

The Mid Atlantic Tours program provides funding for mid-Atlantic-based presenters interested in artists who attract broad regional participation and promote access to high quality performing arts experiences in underserved communities. The artists that participate represent a wide range of specific categories, including contemporary chamber music, dance, folk/traditional music, jazz, theater, world music, and a wild card category that changes each year to include other disciplines or unique opportunities.

About Cyrille Aimée

French jazz vocalist Cyrille Aimée has been dazzling audiences around the world for the last two years with tracks from her last album, It's A Good Day. Let's Get Lost, Aimée's newest album for Mack Avenue Records, brings to light a different side of her expressive singing and reveals a bittersweet depth to her music. When Cyrille auditioned for the French version of American Idol, she became a finalist. Informed she would have to sing only what she was told, her gypsy spirit rebelled and she walked from the competition. Soon after, Cyrille moved to the United States and went on to be a finalist in the legendary Thelonious Monk International Jazz Vocal Competition in 2010, before winning the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition in 2012. Aimée's talents recently caught the attention of Stephen Sondheim, who cast her in an Encore Special Presentation starring Bernadette Peters at New York City's City Center in November 2013. With Let's Get Lost, the bright mademoiselle has blossomed into a full-fledged artist.

About Ethel

ETHEL, the post-modern, indie-classical quartet, pays special homage to the brilliant, gorgeous and masterful women who are making their musical mark on the 21st century. Sometimes fierce, sometimes seductive, always full of creativity, composers like Anna Clyne, Missy Mazzoli, and Pulitzer Prize-winner Julia Wolfe, are, through their own voices, warriors and champions of music today. Repertoire by these powerful and contemporary women - including the first performances of Julia Wolfe's bluegrass-inspired Blue Dress for String Quartet - is performed with music created by the composers' personal sources of inspiration. Anna Clyne's favorites include rock legend Stevie Nicks, while Missy Mazzoli draws creative strength from Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth, one of the leaders of the worldwide wave of alt rock bands. Julia Wolfe cites the timelessness of Aretha Franklin, who continues in her role as standard-bearer for so many of today's musicians. Amplified quartet arrangements of works by these powerhouses are paired with Clyne, Mazzoli, and Wolfe. By exploring new compositions by three of today's most influential composers, side by side with the groundbreaking music of their Muses, ETHEL offers a distinctive and stirring read on their interconnections that is sexy, sumptuous, and boldly beautiful.
