Playhouse South Community Theatre announced the appointment of actor, director and theatre activist Dawn Roth-Smith as Co-Artistic Director for the company. Starting in April she will work with Alan Bomar-Jones on selecting shows and determing the artistic direction of eash season and of the company. The Playhouse South is located at 3700 Far Hills in Kettering Ohio.  For more information on the company visit http://playhousesouth.org/

"Roth-Smith will be working in conjunction with Alan Bomar-Jones, with the two sharing responsibilities for this position." says Jim Brown, President of the BoarD. Brown went on to say that this new role will put Roth-Smith in the thick of selecting shows and determining the artistic direction of each season and of the company. She will begin this opportunity in April 2010 at Playhouse South, located at 3700 Far Hills, Kettering Ohio.

"I believe that this is the second most important responsibility for the leaders of the theater," says Roth-Smith, "the first is making certain that every person who participates in a PHS event feels like they are a part of the greater good." She went on to say, "Choosing the right season and events for Playhouse South will ensure that the group keeps moving forward and growing. Choosing plays and musicals that will include a diverse group of participants, from directors and actors to stage crews and set designers, is very important to keeping the COMMUNITY involved."

Roth-Smith was given her first theater opportunity with Crossroads Community Theater from Richard Court in "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying." Since that time, Roth-Smith has acted, directed, helped develop original productions, built sets, painted, made costumes and hung lights. In addition, she has ushered, sold tickets, and worked concessions at intermission.

Roth-Smith has been active with Playhouse South for more than twenty years. However, she has not been working exclusively at Playhouse South; she has directing for two years at Miamisburg High School. Additionally, she has been in productions at Dayton Playhouse, FirstStage and Dayton Theatre Guild.

Playhouse South is a 501-c-3 organization whose mission is to promote the ongoing appreciation and longevity of live theater by providing teaching and acting opportunities for the community in general with mentorship opportunities for youth participation throughout the organization
