Join us at the Dayton Playhouse on Monday and Tuesday, March 8th and 9th for auditions for our next Main Stage musical GYPSY, running running May 7th-23rd. Auditions will be held in the Dayton Playhouse lobby at 7pm on both nights. Call-backs will be on Wednesday, March 10th. Please come prepared with a 60 second monologue and a Broadway style song that shows vocal range and personality. An accompanist will be provided. Descriptions of the roles follow:
• Rose - Alto with belt (35-55), A powerhouse, seemingly invulnerable stage mother
• Louise - Mezzo (18-25), Rose's "ugly duckling" who unwillingly finds the spotlight
• Herbie - Baritone (40-55), A charming showbiz insider seeking normalcy
• Dainty June - Mezzo (16-20), Frighteningly sweet singer, the product of her mother
• Tulsa - High Baritone (18-25), Dancer with dreams of stardom. Tap skills a must
• Miss Mazeppa - Alto (30-60), Burlesque belter who has a knack for the trumpet
• Electra - Mezzo (50-100), Tired burlesque dancer who gets creative with lightbulbs
• Tessie-Tura - Mezzo (20-50), A former ballerina who's learned a less-refined dance
• Baby June - Belter (6-10), A barrel of vaudeville dynamite, June's young counterpart
• Baby Louise - Spoken (8-13), Highly intelligent but awkward, the younger Louise

Gypsy will be directed by BrIan Sharp. Gypsy has a book by Arthur Laurents, music by Jule Styne, and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Gypsy was suggested by memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee.Since its founding, Dayton Playhouse has been a training ground for young actors and a creative outlet for older performers who have chosen an alternative career choice to the theatre.
