1910 saw George V ascend to the throne, the trial and execution of Dr Crippen, the publication of EM Forster's Howard's End and the birth of Alice Marks, later Alicia Markova, the country's first prima ballerina. It also witnessed the establishment of the Dancing Times, the first independent magazine devoted solely to dance.
Colorado Ballet Presents TOUR DE FORCE

Colorado Ballet will present Tour de Force with just four performances from March 6 - 8 at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House, featuring a variety of contemporary dance works: Edwaard Liang's Feast of the Gods, Lila York's Celts and a world premiere by Julia Adam.
MP+D Receives NEA/ART Works Grant For CAPTURED LIVE

The Museum of Performance + Design was awarded an NEA/Art Works 2017 grant to digitize, catalog, and make available online for broad public access by June 2018 dance images from the HENRIETTA MCDOWELL, CHESTER KESSLER, BOB MCLOED, and KATHERINE KAHRS photographic collections in The Elyse Eng Dance Collection at the Museum of Performance + Design. This project will preserve and provide open access to 2,500 images of dance performances in the San Francisco Bay Area from the 1940s to the 1990s, highlighting the unique holdings in the MP+D collection and the extensive and significant character of its dance photographs. MP+D is one of nine dance projects in San Francisco to be funded this year through the NEA's flagship grant program, Art Works.

Drury Lane Theatre announces complete casting for disco musical Saturday Night Fever, rewritten for the Drury Lane stage, featuring music and lyrics by The Bee Gees, based on the smash-hit Paramount/RSO Film and the story by Nik Cohn, and adapted for the stage by Robert Stigwood in collaboration with Bill Oaks. This North American version was written by Sean Cercone and David Abbinantiand is helmed by Tony-nominated director and choreographer Dan Knechtges. Saturday Night Fever runs January 19 - March 19, 2017 at Drury Lane Theatre, 100 Drury Lane in Oakbrook Terrace. The Press Opening is Thursday, January 26, 2017 at 8:00 p.m. A portion of the opening night tickets sales will be donated to ArtReach, a nonprofit providing access to the arts to underserved communities in the Chicago area.
