Oral Fixation is a monthly live storytelling series for adults featuring regular folks reading aloud their true, personal stories on a certain theme. It takes place on a Monday at the Wyly Studio Theatre in the Dallas Arts District. Videos and podcasts from past stories can be found at www.oralfixationshow.com.
It’s the season finale folks! Oral Fixation (An Obsession with True Life Tales) will send off its fourth season with an evening of true, personal tales on the theme, “Happy Camper.” On April 20th at the Wyly Studio Theatre with an encore performance on April 22nd at Texas Theatre in Oak Cliff, both at 8pm, seven Dallasites will share their happy place.
Meet Ken Bethea who quit his corporate gig at age 30 to pursue life as a musician and created the Old 97’s, Randy Brown who found himself deep in the heart of the Grand Canyon without a lifeline, Ryan Gifford-Robinson, a man who works as a counselor at a remarkable camp for disabled youth, Xuan Nguyen, a self-described "weird kid" who finally fulfills her dream of camping at a Vietnamese Catholic retreat, Charles Scudder whose passion for the Goatman ghost story turns into investigative reporting, Melissa Smrekar who learns at a mandatory 8th grade camping trip that "it's really liberating to say no to shit you hate", and creator Nicole Stewart who shares how getting kicked out of her summer camp in Colorado taught her it was ok to fail.
