Mis-Lead
April 5-7, 2024
Kalita Humphreys Theater
Conceived and Directed by Sam Brukhman
Composed by Kirsten Soriano
Based on the voices of West Dallas, featuring the poetry of Maya Angelou and Octavio Paz
Verdigris Ensemble premieres its flagship music experience of the year, Mis-Lead, by nationally acclaimed composer Kirsten Soriano. In a stunningly sobering telling of West Dallas’s lead-infused past, Verdigris Ensemble narrates the true story of Dallas’s troubled history with lead-smelting factories and their effects on West Dallas neighborhoods. Collaborating with Keri Mitchell and Dallas Free Press, Verdigris Ensemble uses eyewitness accounts, newspaper articles, and city council transcripts to bring to life one of the most impactful moments in the history of the City of Dallas.
Mis-Lead is a recipient of a grant from the TACA New Works Fund and New Music USA.
