About the Play: Venus in Fur is sexy, a little dangerous, and a whole lot of fun! The play is about Thomas, a playwright/ director, who is desperate to find the right actress for his adaptation of a classic novel. Vanda, an equally desperate actress, arrives out of breath and hours late for her audition. Though completely wrong for the part, she exhibits a strange command of the material. As the two work through the script, the line between play and reality merges into an increasingly hypnotic game of submission and domination. (Adult Content & Language)
Venus in Fur opened off-Broadway at the Classic Stage Company on January 13, 2010. The Manhattan Theatre Club picked up the show for a limited engagement in it's 2011-12 Broadway season at the Samuel J. Friedman theatre. The production moved to the Lyceum Theatre in February 2012 and closed in June 2012. The Broadway cast featured Nina Arianda and Hugh Dancy with direction by Walter Bobbie. Nina Arianda won a Tony Award for her performance and the production was nominated for Best Play.
