Uptown Players continues its eighth season with the Southwest premiere of The Trials and Tribulations of a Trailer Trash Housewife, running Friday, February 13 - Sunday, March 15, 2009, at the KD Studio Theatre. This production is under the direction of Cheryl Denson with music direction by Scott Eckert.

Written by Del Shores, The Trials and Tribulations of a Trailer Trash Housewife is a tragic-comedy about domestic violence, set in small town trailer-park Texas. The play explores the lives of Willadean Winkler (Cindee Mayfield), her abusive husband J.D. (TA Taylor), her best-friend LaSonia (Laura Warner) and trashy cocktail waitress Rayleen Hobbs (Melissa Jobe). The play is scored around soul-soaring blues songs (sung by Crystal Ramon).

A delicate blend of frightened humor and pain, it delves right into the heart of abuse. Explosive one-sided arguments erupt and build, until one disastrous night it all goes too far, and the lives of those in the trailer park are never the same.

The production runs Friday, February 13 through Sunday, March 15, 2009, with shows at 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and at 2 p.m. on Sundays (no matinee of February 15). All shows take place at the KD Studio Theatre, 2600 N. Stemmons Freeway #180, Dallas, Texas 75207. Tickets are $25-$30 and can be purchased online at www.uptownplayers.org or by phone at (214) 219-2718.

Now entering its eighth season, Uptown Players has gathered a dedicated following with an annual audience base of nearly 12,000 patrons, including more than 900 season subscribers. The response from the community and critics has been remarkable, including more than 25 Leon Rabin Awards from the Dallas Theatre League, several hundred "The Column" Awards and 14 Theatre Critics Forum Awards in its first seven seasons. Uptown Players has also been named the best theatre company by the Dallas Voice Readers in 2006-2008 and by the Dallas Observer in 2004 and 2005. Uptown Players is a 501 © 3 non-profit organization, presenting plays and musicals that challenge audiences artistically, build cultural bridges and strive to create greater positive public awareness and acceptance through the performing arts. There is no other theater group with this unique mission in the Dallas area.
