Uptown Players Hosts The Regional Premiere Of THE CAKE Image

Uptown Players closes its 2018-2019 season with the regional premiere of The Cake by Bekah Brunstetter, running August 9 - August 25, 2019.

Della's North Carolina bakery is legendary! She is overjoyed when her best friend's daughter returns from New York to get married and asks Della to make her wedding cake. Della, a sweet-natured Christian, is forced to re-examine her deeply-held beliefs and her own marriage when she realizes there is not one bride, but two. Faith, family, and frosting collide in this delicious new comedy from the writer of the NBC hit series, "This is Us" - Bekah Brunstetter.

"When LGBTQ issues clash with Religious Freedom issues, the discussion goes to the national press and to headlines. But when those issues are reduced to one baker and one old friend, the conversation become very personal and relatable. Bekah Brunstetter has given us a work on a human level. Our cast brings the conversation alive with humor, tears and cake." -Cheryl Denson / Director
