This fall Undermain returns to the work of Conor McPherson, one of the English language's leading theatrical voices, with the regional premiere of his startling new play in 3200 Main Street in Deep Ellum. THE NIGHT ALIVE is a touching, harrowing and humorous examination of five disparate people banding together to create a hopeful future while keeping the forces of darkness in their lives at bay. As in Undermain's productions of his earlier plays SHINING CITY and ST. NICHOLAS, Conor McPherson's new play deftly mines the humanity to be found in the most unlikely of situations and has been lauded by critics for its boisterous comedy and aching poetry.
The Undermain presents THE NIGHT ALIVE in the wake of its triumphant premiere at London's Donmar Warehouse and its award-winning run at New York's' Atlantic Theatre.
Winner of the NY Drama Critics' Circle Award for best play of 2013/14
THE NIGHT ALIVE will open on Saturday, November 21st, 2015 - curtain time 8:15. Preview performances will be on Nov. 18, 19 and 20. The production will run through December 12th. All preview performances will be $10.
THE NIGHT ALIVE follows the lives of four modern Dubliners who are trying to get by, helping each other stay one step ahead of the past. Tommy's a middle-aged misfit renting a run-down room in his uncle Maurice's house, rolling from one get-rich-quick scheme to the other with his pal Doc, a homeless mystic. One day he rescues Aimee from a physical attack by a shadowy figure in her life. She's a twenty-something lass who hasn't had it too easy herself. Their past won't let go easily, but together there's a glimmer of hope that they could make something more of their future. Something extraordinary.
