Immediately following the Sunday, August 19th performance of Heisenberg/Actually, written by Simon Stephens and Anna Ziegler, respectively, Theatre Three will welcome speakers from local advocacy groups to speak to the timely issues that arise onstage in Actually. The evening will cover several triggering topics, including Title IX (the law that states a school becomes legally responsible when their response to harassment "is clearly unreasonable in light of the known circumstances."), sexual assault, and the urgent understanding of consent. This one-time-only opportunity will follow the 2:30 performance.
Leading the talkback will be Hope Rising President, Lisa Miller. With a mission of fostering education and awareness on sexual assault and domestic violence, Hope Rising is a Dallas-based non-profit group focused on creating positive change through arts-related activities. Scheduled to appear are Trauma Specialist Dr. Christy Sim, along with representatives from the Dallas Area Rape Crisis Center and the cast of Actually, Edna Gill and Aaron Jay Green.
People are shaped by past experiences. Entrancing first encounters with attractive strangers on trains leave a smile on our faces, a memory waiting to tell all. Troubling matters over sexual consent (or lack-there-of) leave a scar sometimes too deep to cover, a wound we desperately try to wrap in as many layers as we can find.
Heisenberg, written by Tony Award-winning Playwright of The Curious Incident...follows the unexpected aftermath of a brash and surprising kiss between two strangers on a crowded London train while Actually dives deep into the murky waters of sexual ethics, evidence, and unveiling truths on a college campus. Does a need for affection, love, and intimacy change as we age?
Heisenberg/Actually runs through August 26th at Theatre Three, located at 2800 Routh Street, Suite 168. Tickets range from $10-50 (see pricing information below) and are on sale at Theatre3Dallas.com. Tickets are also available by phone at 214.871.3300, option #1 and in-person at the Theatre Three Box Office. $5 student tickets can be purchased at the box office 30 minutes before each show (valid student ID required).
