Theatre Arlington held its 45th Annual Stony Awards at 6:30pm on Sunday, September 24th, 2018, honoring actors, designers, directors, volunteers and community partners for excellence in the productions during the 2017-2018 45th anniversary season. Guests gathered at the theater for drinks before the show and were then treated to a fun, light-hearted show with Interim Executive Producer, Steven D. Morris serving as the Master of Ceremonies and Don Powers on the piano, with entertainment by some of Theatre Arlington's favorite performers: Nik Blocker, Dawn Prejean, Tevin Cates, Donovan Lawson, Emily-Kate Ivey, Daniel Hernandez and Ashlyn Nichols. Plus, an unexpected surprise visit by Spiderman! Afterwards, all gathered in the lobby for more celebrating with drinks and a reception, sponsored in part by Cooper Street Bakery.
Awards were presented to recipients in three main categories: 1) Performance, 2) Design and Production and 3) Special Achievement. Congratulations to all those who contributed to make Theatre Arlington's 45th Anniversary Season so fabulous!
It was a very touching year for our Special Achievement Awards, as the Board of Directors chose to recognize the late Lisann Peters, who passed away on August 13th of this year, with the President's Award. TA Board President, Dr. Aaron Reich took the stage to describe how much Lisann meant to the theater over the years, serving on the Board of Directors and as a huge proponent and financial supporter of Theatre Arlington's ACT UPS outreach program. He then presented the award posthumously to her son, Kort Peters. Mr. Peters gave a heartfelt acceptance speech on behalf of his mother and there were not many dry eyes in the house. As Dr. Reich thanked Kort again, he asked him to remain onstage. At that moment, Dr. Reich unveiled the brand-new award to be given each year when possible in honor of Lisann's service to the Arlington community - The Lisann Peters Community Champion Award. The inaugural award was given to Penny Patrick, former Executive Director of Theatre Arlington who is currently serving as a consultant during the theater's management transition. It was a wonderful celebration of the beautiful life of a theater friend and encourager, who gave a new definition to the term volunteerism. She left an amazing legacy and will be greatly missed.
