The Firehouse Theatre will present the regional premiere of Billy Elliot the Musical this summer. The Production Committee has decided to move the previously slated summer musicals (Seussical and The Music Man) to a future season in order to take advantage of this exciting opportunity. The Firehouse Theatre's production of Billy Elliot will be brought to life by an award-winning creative team led by Derek Whitener and Rebecca Lowrey. Adult and youth auditions will be announced on our website and Facebook page shortly.
Based on the 2000 film Billy Elliot, the international sensation features a timeless score by music legend Elton John and book and lyrics by Lee Hall. The musical's success in London - including four Laurence Olivier Awards and five additional nominations - led to a hit 2008 Broadway production in New York that won 10 Tony Awards® (including Best Musical) and 10 Drama Desk Awards.
Set in a northern English mining town, against the background of the 1984 miners' strike, Billy Elliot is the inspirational story of a young boy's struggle against the odds to make his dream come true. Follow Billy's journey as he stumbles out of the boxing ring and into a ballet class where he discovers a passion for dance that inspires his family and community and changes his life forever.
