THE WIZARD OF OZ Takes the Stage at Granbury Opera House  Image

Granbury Theatre Company will continue its 2019 Broadway on the Brazos season with the musical The Wizard of Oz on July 26-August 25, 2019, at the historic Granbury Opera House in Downtown Granbury.

According to Tams Witmark, "After a tornado whisks her away to the magical land of Oz, young Dorothy Gale teams up with a Scarecrow, a Tin Woodsman and a Cowardly Lion to find the mighty Wizard of Oz, who can send her home. Along the way, they must avoid the clutches of the Wicked Witch of the West, who is trying to steal the mysterious magic slippers that once belonged to her evil sister... but are now on Dorothy's feet. Dorothy eventually learns just how magical friendship can be and how wonderful it can feel to go home again. "

The musical is based on the famed 1939 MGM motion picture starring Judy Garland.

Leading the Opera House production are Cheyenne Throckmorton as Dorothy, Austin Bender as Scarecrow, Bryson Petersen as Tin Man, and Tyler Ivie as the Cowardly Lion. Others in the cast are Hannah Beth Baker, Cayley Nicole Davis, Miles Emerson, Chance Harmon, Heleena Mason, Michele Mastick, Rachel Mastick, and Stephanie Shaw. Rounding out the ensemble are Madison Acuña-Taylor, Andy Alamo, Michaiah Armstrong, Cameron Bishop, Ginny Knight Blevins, Gracey Brooks, Grace Burdick, Kadence Dye, Chelsea Harp, Suellyn Hunter, Tyler Krumm, Hayley Vantine, and Chase Williams.

The Munchkin Land cast includes Sophie Anglin, William Bartula, Annabelle Brooks, Stella Brooks, Kailyn Brooks-Mayeux, Kharli Brooks-Mayeux, Brinley Burbidge, Anna Cruz, Harry Cruz, Kaylen Dewbre, Cavin Dye, Clara Enlow, Berklee Heil, Alexandria Gail Hood, Reese Jones, Beckett Kelley, Austyn Light, Madison Light, Christian Lilley, Elijah MacWithey, Ava Mallory, Victoria Martos, Preston Mathews, Katy Mills, Blaise Morgan, Kinsey Morrow, Logan Morrow, Lauren Murray, Meghan Murray, Adyson Page, Zaniyah Page, Jillian Polson, Isabella Price, Julianne Rongey, Shelby Rose, Lily Ross, Baylor Sellers, Blaire Stanfield, Tanner Stanfield, Emma Stennett, Dylan Wood, and Evey Woody.

The musical is under the direction of Matt Beutner assisted by Mia Cree Washington, and Ashley Green is leading music. Choreography is by Jennie Jermaine. Designers for the production are: Kerri Pavelick, scenery; Kyle Hoffman, sound; David Broberg, lighting; Drenda Lewis, costumes; Gaylene Carpenter, props; Colton Lively, makeup. Whitney Shearon is the stage manager assisted by Nolan Moralez.

Performances times are 7:30 P.M. on Fridays, 2:00 P.M. and 7:30 P.M. on Saturdays, and 2:00 P.M. on Sundays.

The Granbury Opera Guild will host a First Night reception on the second floor of the Opera House lobby from 6:30-7:30 P.M. in honor of opening night of the musical on Friday, July 26.

Tickets are available now through the GTC box office at (817) 579-0952 or online at www.granburytheatrecompany.org. Ticket prices are $35 for prime seating and $30 in standard seating. Discounts are available for senior citizens, active duty military personnel, veterans, students, and children.

Granbury Theatre Company is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that manages the Granbury Opera House, produces critically-acclaimed plays and musicals, and hosts concerts and other special events. The company also includes the Granbury Theatre Academy, which offers after-school and summer programs to provide acting, dance, and singing instruction for children and youth.
