THE PRODUCERS

*SATURDAY JULY 25 - SUNDAY AUGUST 9, 2009 (R)

DIRECTOR: HARVEY COCKS

First a classic cult comedy film, now a big Broadway musical! With a truly hysterical book co-written by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan (Annie) and music and lyrics by Mr. Brooks, The Producers skewers Broadway traditions and takes no prisoners as it proudly proclaims itself an "equal opportunity offender!" THE PIANO LESSON

*SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 12 - SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 20, 2009

DIRECTOR: John TollEY

August Wilson won his second Pulitzer Prize for this haunting drama set in 1936. A brother and sister have conflicted opinions over selling the antique piano embellished with carvings detailing the family's rise from slavery. (PG13) *Note: Saturday opening night. Arts United Center

QUILT A MUSICAL CELEBRATION

Few who have seen the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt can ever forget the experience or the powerful emotions evoked by this patchwork of panels. JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT

The Biblical saga of Joseph and his coat of many colors comes to vibrant life in this delightful musical parable. Set to an engaging cornucopia of musical styles, from country-western and calypso to bubble-gum pop and rock ‘n' roll, this Old Testament tale emerges both timely and timeless!

THE ROAD TO MECCA

This fascinating drama focuses on Miss Helen, an aging artist who lives alone in South Africa where she creates odd concrete sculptures which she calls her "Mecca". A penetrating study of the role of the artist in any society, this important play was the winner of the New York Drama Critics Circle award for Best Foreign Play.
