Sundown to Clown. Sundown Collaborative Theatre finishes out eighth season with regional premiere of Jacob Monroe Hates Clowns by NYC playwright Corey Vogel.

Rounding out Sundown's eighth season is Jacob Monroe Hates Clowns, written by NYU graduate Corey Vogel. Director Mandy Rausch learned about the script and its playwright when Vogel was featured on the website Humans of New York. Billed a "metatheatrical tragicomedy", the text juggles many forms of theatrical comedy including Commedia dell'Arte, clowning, pantomime and improvisation.

Jacob, unable to gain admittance to any other colleges near Rosetta, enrolls in the only school who will accept him: a clowning school. He soon regrets his impulsiveness, though, due to his lifelong fear of clowns.

"Jacob fears clowns for different reasons than you may think," explains director Mandy Rausch. "Clowns willingly accept and celebrate failure, and that's something that terrifies Jacob."

Jacob Monroe Hates Clowns is an ambitious script, and Sundown's production has a much larger scope than usual: a large cast, many props, costumes and technical elements. As usual, Sundown takes these challenges and puts its own unique spin on them!

Jacob Monroe Hates Clowns performs at 8pm, April 22-May 1 at the Point Bank Black Box Theatre in Denton, Texas. Call 940-220-9302 or email boxoffice@sundowntheatre.org to reserve seats.
