Sundown Collaborative Theatre Presents LEMONS Image

The average person will speak 123,205,750 words in their lifetime. But what if there was a limit to what you could say? Set in a frighteningly plausible near future, Lemons explores intense censorship, social justice, and an ever-present big brother government in the context of the ways we communicate with one another.

When a bill is introduced to limit all citizens to only 140 words a day, Oliver and Bernadette have very different reactions: activism and denial. When the bill becomes law, the two find themselves struggling to resolve the growing distance between them. This story follows their relationship in a non-chronological fashion as Oliver and Bernadette attempt to navigate the intricacies of an intimate relationship in a world where they're forced to say less.

Reaching deep into the meaning of communication and the injustice of quietude, this play is sure to resonate with you long after you leave the theater. Lemons is about what we say and how we say it; about the things we can only hear in the silence; about dead cats, activism, eye contact, and of course....lemons, lemons, lemons, lemons, lemons.

Director Lillith Grey has been part of the world of show biz her whole life, both onstage and behind the scenes. She has directed for Sundown's Short Works Festival for several years, and is excited to take on her first full-length show with the company. Her recent work includes co-writing and directing The Best Little Shop of Whorrors in Texas: A Burlesque Musical in October, and writing and directing Siren Song in March, as well as producing and directing a variety of shows in North Texas. She is the creative director for Salty Lady Burlesque, the producer of Glitterbomb Denton, and is a professional emcee and entertainer.

-Lindsey Hall, Marketing Director - "This show makes us evaluate when and how we communicate, and poses the questions: How would we adapt if faced with a sudden limit? What if something we take totally for granted was all but stripped away? How would our relationships survive?"
